Finding inspiration in the strangest of places
Monday, July 19, 2010 at 4:07PM Like other people in design based industries, I tend to find inspiration in some weird situations, but this past weekend I found myself walking through a cemetery snapping photos and thinking of how amazing all of the typefacing was on the head stones. We were in the Sleepy Hollow cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts. It's famous for Authors Ridge where you'll find the graves of Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louisa May Alcott. I just found it so interesting that we're still using the same types, curves, borders and shapes today that people were utilizing 200 years ago. While you may not want to see you invites as a grave stone, just think of how "cute" the curved text at the top of so many invitations look... I guess Cyrus liked it too! Some things are truly timeless.
