Lace and burlap and twine, oh my...

As I've already bored you with last week, getting into the holiday spirit this year has been slow going for me.  One of the things that had me a little bummed out was wrapping gifts. I usually spend hours choosing my gift wrap (it's paper... cut me some slack.) One year I sealed everything with twine and red wax. Another year everything had to be wrapped in mounting layers of gold papers. This year the joints in my hands have not been cooperating so I grabbed some sad paper at Ikea a month ago, threw it into a corner and tried to ignore it.

A couple of days ago I was over on Style Me Pretty and saw a post about another blog, Grey Likes Weddings which featured the most amazing DIY gift wrap I think I've ever seen. It was just the inspiration I needed to jump start me back into holiday mode. I may not have the perfect white sweater laying around just waiting to be cut up, but last night I scavenged my house and came up with burlap, silk and satin ribbons, some old ornaments and scraps of lace which mixed with the sad Ikea paper took on a new life. My hands held out long enough for me to wrap about a dozen boxes. They're not as layered and intricate as those made by Summer Watkins, but I'm happy with them. They got me out of my funk and I actually think this combination of materials would be beautiful used as wedding favor wrapping or around boxed invitations. Possibly a DIY kit in the near future?

Its crazy how somethings workout..heres a little story about me .. im planning for my wedding this summer. & I've been tossing back & forth ideas on decor. I love all the little details in decorating a table but also can't afford to do all the things I'd like. Its a beach wedding in miami beach , but I want there to be romance and elegance aside from the obvious casualness of the setting. The hotel has this chic southern style thats inspiring but I want to add my own twist. I didnt want to add linens because they provide basic white, so0 i thought maybe table runners, or wall paper. Then I thought of using burlap but I wanted to fancy it up and found this beautiful lace on ebay. before you knew it I was super excited but at the same time unsure if the two textures would work. I Went looking through my fav blogs and here you were confirming my excitement. Thanks so0o much . One less thing to obsess about . !
